What is your superpower?
I don’t mean the one you wish you had – invisibility, flight, super strength, super speed, or the ability to shoot lightning bolts from your eyeballs.
(For the record, I’d like to fly. Eyeball lasers come in at a close second, though.)
I mean that everyone has a hidden superpower. You may not even realize it’s a super power, but it is unqiue yours. It’s that thing that you are exceptional at, maybe it is something you can do that no one else can do. Remember in the movie The Breakfast Club when Claire sticks her lipstick in her cleavage and then perfectly applies it to her lips? While this is maybe not the most useful superpower, it’s hers and she owns it.
My superpower is that I learn things very, very fast. It’s part that I learn from doing and that I have a pretty strong intuition when it comes to learning, but I can also see patterns in information and mentally I can follow these patterns to conclusion pretty effortlessly. Because of this, I am very good with computers and software. A couple of hours with a new piece of software and I know how to use it and know how to teach it to others. I do this at my work all the time, but I also spend many hours of my weekends deciding to learn html, how to build stylesheets for WordPress, or 3D animation.
The only thing I haven’t been able to apply this to is foreign languages – my very own kryptonite. I suspect it is how languages are taught that trips me up and not my actual ability to learn, but I’m a poor foreign language student. I can even learn math pretty quickly, it’s just that I can’t seem to hold onto math for very long. Ten minutes after mastering FOIL and I can barely add again.
So what’s your superpower? Do you have a kryptonite?
