My name is Sommer Leigh and I live and write in Omaha, Nebraska where it snows too much in the winter, gets too hot in the summer, and produces the best thunder storms.
I write Young Adult (YA) speculative-fiction, mostly sci-fi and dystopians, but also some horror. Right now I’m working on a novel about superheroes and villains and robots and mad scientists. I’ve also written a novel about zombies and dystopia.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Communication from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2007. I do have a grown-up job in a hospital where I get to work with a lot of awesome people.
I have not published any of my fiction but I did work as a freelance journalist for a number of years.
When I am not working or writing, I split my time between video games (XBox 360), reading, and art. I love everything that has to do with the internet, social media, and blogging. I like to read about science, history, and theory.
I am a Nerdfighter. I am a reader, a writer, a video game player. I am a blogger, a painter, a world builder, a monster hunter, and a part-time wizard.
Where I can be found on the web
I am a moderator for Nathan Bransford’s writing and social media forum. I think it is the best gathering place on the internet for writers of all types!
I am most active on my blog and Twitter, but I can also be found at:

The Blog Stuff
- On my blog I have one and a half rules: Be nice & be yourself.
- Please do not solicit me to host a blog post you’ve written on subjects that clearly have nothing to do with the craft of writing, YA, superheroes, steampunk, geeky stuff, zombies, etc. I’m sure you write great blog posts on getting a degree and making money at blogging, but that stuff doesn’t belong on my blog. If you are part of the writing/YA/book blogging community, I’d be happy to have you guest post!
- I’m usually available to guest post or participate in some cool activity you are championing online. Just drop me an email and I’ll let you know if I can do. Don’t be shy! I love getting involved!
- If you have a book coming out, a blog fest, a giveaway, event, charity drive, important blog post or announcement, and you think it would be interesting to my readers, send me an email. Really, don’t be shy. I can’t promise I’ll post about it, but I will do my best.
